Hillsong recorded their latest live album on Sunday at the Acer Arena and what a night it was… amazing, I think its the best album they’ve done.
So without further ado, here’s what went down…
A single spotlight lit the centre of the stage and Joel walked into the light, he talked about the heart of the night, the reason why we were there and then he read from Isaiah. After that the lights went down, and then the guitars kicked into the intro for Your Name High (written by Joel), which Joel led. The sound was amazing, in previous years they’ve tried to keep the live sound from spilling into the mic’s used to record the crowd I guess to make overdubbing easier, but probably in light of the I Heart project they have a new philosophy now… just crank it up.
Your Name High is a great song, its uptempo and a progression of the style seen in Point Of Difference on AOTA, complete with a great section of wo-oh-oh’s that you’ll be singing for hours after hearing it.
Next the band launched into Run (Joel Houston), similar to Your Name High, four to the floor uptempo number. Again Joel led this one.
A quick personnel change and we’re into the next song, Matt Crocker runs onto the centre of the stage and leads us in Across The Earth (Matt Crocker & Reuben). This is a mid-tempo song, that has a great tag at the end “Your kingdom reigns, Your kingdom reigns, above all, above all”. The song ended with the tag being sung just with keys for backing.
Lights down and then Donna Crouch appears in a spotlight reading from Isaiah. While she does this there’s another personnel change and Joel disappears and is replaced by Jill, who leads us in the next song Fall At Your Feet (Reuben). Its a great ballad, typical Reuben style, however Jill really adds something to the song with her vocal, its a highlight of the night.
After this Annie Garratt moves centre stage and leads He Is Lord (Ben Fielding). Another ballad but this one is very hymn-like with a big bridge and tag line at the end “He’s coming back again…”.
Really good song.
At this point, there’s another change and Jill leaves the stage and Darlene comes on to lead us in a new song, High And Lifted Up (Darlene). This is the first time we’ve done this song at church, its a good one but maybe not the best she’s written though.
From there the band moves into a 6/8 groove as Jad takes a break from music directing and leads us in Stronger (Reuben and Ben Fielding). This is a great song, classic Reuben stuff. Think What The Lord Has Done and you’re not far off.
At the end of this song, Mike Guglielmucci walks onto stage, carrying an oxygen tank and with tubes in his nose. He walks centre stage and begins to read from Isaiah 53. The passage finishes with the line “and by His stripes I am healed” and the whole crowd goes crazy cheering him on. Then someone hands him a guitar and he leads us in his song Healer. This totally goes off, his faith is so inspiring, I think everyone in the room felt the atmosphere change as he began to sing. This is more than a song to him, its a prayer and declaration of faith. It was so powerful.
They joined this with the tag line from You Are Here (not sure of the writers, maybe Dave George and someone from London?), Joel leading this… “The same power that conquered the grave lives in me”. Its a great ending to the first half of the night.
The second half opens with Joel A’Bell reading from Isaiah and then we’re into You Deserve (from the Gromie’s EP) led by Sam Knock. Its a favourite here at Hillsong.
The momentum continues with JD as he leads us in Alive In You (Scott Ligertwood and Mike Guglielmucci), another uptempo song, has a bit of an English feel to it.
Desert Prayer (Brooke) is then led by Brooke and Jill. Mid tempo song, not sure how many congregations could sing this one but it was a good song nonetheless.
You’ll Come (Brooke), led by Brooke and Darlene. You can check this out on the I Heart album.
After this Brooke sang part of the old hymn Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, just her and her guitar.
Another change saw Marty come on stage and make his only appearance to lead Sing To The Lord (Matt Crocker and Mike Gug). It added a freshness to this song having a male lead where you would expect it to be a female vocalist leading. It’s a great song, sounds like its been lifted from a Planetshakers album.
Approaching the end of the night now and Joel Davies came on stage to lead Where We Belong (Reuben and Joel Davies). This is a real grower of a song. Lots of words to fit in but I really like it, its a bit different and unexpected for Hillsong.
Then the last song was epic. Joel led his new song With Everything. Previous to this night I’d only heard the tag in church so it was great to hear the full song. There really is no other word for this song than epic. It starts off with Joel on his acoustic guitar and some keys providing backing and builds to a massive instrumental ending with 2 extra drummers on stage with a snare each smashing away.
After everyone walked off stage the choir (in the mosh pit) began to sing the tag line of this song over and over for another 5 minutes until it became clear that the team weren’t coming back on stage for an encore.
For those interested in who played… Drummers were Brandon Gillies and Rolf did a half each, Gabe made an appearance with a snare for the last song. Matt Tenni and Bob played bass. There were 4 keys players, with 3 playing at any one time, Kev Lee, Peter James, Autumn and Dave Andrew. There was a stack of guitarists and for most of the songs there were 4 electric guitarists going at the same time… Nigel, Timon, Ben Fielding, Dylan Thomas, Andrew and Joel (from the Gromies), Jad, Dean Ussher.
Reuben played electric all night, Joel, Jill, Brooke, Marty and Sam Knock played acoustic guitar. There was also a small string section for a few songs and then a brass section for another bunch of songs.
So all in all a fantastic night, roll on July for the finished product.

Don’t worry, I reckon you’ll love the new album.

162 days agoEven though it’s United-ish, it’s good to see the mix of different worshippers leading and how the music is different also and how it’s just not “one more album”, that it’s much more about the music and the voices. I do miss Darlene leading though

I like how they’ve allowed for so many different leaders, maybe to stop it becoming all about the main ones, which is good.

162 days agoJake – From what I understand Marty was just busy with other stuff and didn’t have much time to get involved with the album this year. He’s not employed by the church so he’s a volunteer and you know what its like, sometimes you don’t have time for a church project because of work and stuff.
LP – I’m not sure where they disappeared to. Most of the songs that made the recording were written in the last few weeks, so maybe they just had so many to choose from that these older ones never made it.

Permalink to this commentThanks for posting this. I really love Hillsong Church and all that they are doing, so it’s great to read an update like this.
I must be really out of the loop, though, and forgive me if this is something everyone has already known for a awhile, but has there been a leadership change in the worship department at Hillsong? What is the lowdown on that?
Thanks!
Felix
161 days agoJessica – Yeah, there has been a change recently, basically Joel is now creative director and Reuben is worship pastor. Darlene is no longer on staff but still involved with the team as a volunteer.
Diego – From what I remember Marty was only on stage for the song he led.
LP – Jill is a new worship leader here at church. As for unusual songs… I think the closest thing to this was Desert Prayer, a new one by Brooke.

161 days agoThankyou Felix for this great review :) I think next year will be my first album recording, as Im moving to Sydney from Perth for a few years to study. May I ask why Mike G was involved? Is he not with PlanetShakers anymore? Not that I’m complaining, ‘Healer’ is such a beautiful song! I am really excited about the changes at Hillsong, althought it is sad to hear of Darlene stepping down but I believe she set the scene for Hillsong and made it what it is today, probably one of the most influential churches in the world, when it comes to Worship Music. Also sad that Marty isn’t involved as much he is also an incredible talent but it is good to see the younger ones stepping up and to see Joel taking up new positions. I still imagine he will be heavily involved with United this year still, due to theiheart project in full swing this year. I wonder if Darlene will still go on tour’s?

160 days agoJamin – Mike Gug is now a part of Hillsong church. He’s been coming for a few months now as he moved to Sydney to be near a specialist hospital where he’s receiving treatment.
One thing you’ll notice about this album is that its more of a team effort than ever before and you’ll get a glimpse of how many great people are in the team.
Jamin & Sandy – Darlene is still very involved with the team, doing tours and the like. I think one of the reasons she gave for the change was because she’s travelling so much now in ministry that she was unable to give the team the time needed to lead it.
JCBlaze – Yeah that’s Jill with Brooke, not sure of her last name.

All that being said, yes I hate the LIVE logo as well haha… but yeah Felix seems to think there will be more of a live sound this year anyway, so it may be slightly more appropriate.
I really love the With Hearts As One cover. The band logo is only on the sticker, and the church logo is only a shiny imprint that you can only see in certain light.

155 days agoSandy – not sure what Miriam has been doing lately other than recording her extravagant worship album. The team on the recording this year is an accurate reflection of who’s been most involved at the regular weekend services for the past 9 months that I’ve been here.
Yvonne – I haven’t heard anything from church as to what the title may be. As for Mia’s songs, she wrote a few that didn’t make it to the album, not sure why. Can’t remember the verses from Isaiah that were read.
Kix – No Tulele isn’t on this album.
Antod – Don’t know about the DVD, you could always try getting the Hillsong conference muso sessions on DVD.
Charlotte – Gabe came on stage for the last part of the last song, carrying a snare, which he played for about a minute and then the song ended. And yeah I think he was the drummer for With Hearts As One.
Mike – It was Brandon Gillies playing Your Name High.
Sheila – I’m not sure I agree with you when you say the older albums were more spiritual. I can understand you liking the older style but I’m not sure whether a style of music can be spiritual can it?

153 days agoFelix, what I meant is simply that the older music has meaty theology…one is inspired by the lyrics alone…the work of United and this most recent album (as well as, in my opinion, Savior King), rely more on the instruments aiding in praise. I do like the fact that this new album seems to focus on the passion of Christ…appropriate. It was a fantastic, unforgettable night and I know that many chains were broken.

151 days agoHey all, (in particular to Bernie, Aaron and Someone, and Antod)
In regards to artwork, most likely the LIVE will be there as the idea behind using LIVE was to establish a strong focal branding for the main church album similar in a way to like UNITED is on previous albums (present one excepted), ALTHOUGH I hear the overall branding of the albums might be changing now that Joel is in charge. But until that happens, assume it is.
In regards to the DVD it’s gonna be pretty much the same as last year: barebones. Just the main worship night and one other bonus feature, similar to if not like the blogs of SK. That’s pretty much due to overseas distributors and manufacturing costs.
Peace.

151 days agoyeah God He Reigns and Mighty to Save was butchered by American distributors. The bonus CD and DVD on the GHR was not released in America, so they shortened almost all of the songs and left out the last two. Then on MTS, they left out the bonus DVD on both the CD and DVD sets. It is because of overseas distributor and manufacturing costs as Glenn said, but it’s still sad. You’d think they could put a little bit more on the DVD bonus features becuase Blessed and YAMW were single disc DVDs but they still had a lot of features.

148 days agoi find it sad when i hear people saying that things are going downhill because of change… worship (in the sense of singing, praising etc.) is not about the band, or who’s leading the songs. it’s about expressing our love for God through song.
i’m actually quite glad that the next generation is moving to the forefront at Hillsong now because it gives us a chance to experience totally new revelations of God’s character. every songwriter and worshipper have their own understanding / experiences of who God is and what i love about new songs and worship leaders is that they give me the chance to learn a little bit more about the heart of God; and gain another perspective of our creator… rather than lack of meaning / growth you would get out of one worship leader leading the same song over and over.
i don’t know if that’s the same for everyone… but hey.

148 days agoapparently it’s official that Hillsong’s new album is called This Is Our God (I remember a few days ago people talking about it here):
On the evening of Sunday, March 9th 2008, thousands of worshippers gathered to fill the Acer Arena in Sydney as Hillsong Church recorded their latest live worship album.
The night was riveting, as the stadium filled with thousands of voices, eyes raised heavenward, and created an expectancy that welcomed the very presence of God.
“We come together and we say, ‘This is who we are, God. We need You, we love You, and we’re going to give everything to You’. It’s actually about the church coming together and singing with One Voice, One Passion, One Heart, giving all our praise to God,” Joel Houston, Hillsong Creative Director, said.
A number of new songwriters, worship leaders and musicians joined Reuben Morgan, Joel Houston, Darlene Zschech and Marty Sampson on the platform, capturing the sound of a new generation, and entering into a new season of worship and song.
“It’s about a generation expressing their worship; expressing their heart for worship in the action of love toward God, toward the world we live in, and the people who inhabit it. It’s not about highlighting the darkness; it’s about becoming the light that diminishes the darkness. It’s the gospel and we’re all in this together,” Joel said.
It was a night of faith, as Michael Gugliemucci, who has battled his own health crisis against cancer for two years, walked confidently on stage, oxygen tank in hand, and boldly sung the words to his song ‘Healer’.
The evening culminated with a loud and victorious version of Joel Houston’s new song ‘With Everything’. As the band turned to walk off stage the crowd seemed to bask in the moment. With little accompaniment from the band, they broke into spontaneous song as they worshipped God for several minutes.
The new album titled This is Our God, the 17th live praise and worship album, will be released on July 7th, coinciding with the annual Hillsong Conference held at the Acer Arena.

143 days agoHey Aaron, I like this cover too. Because of the fact that there are no pics of the worshipleaders so prominently on the frontcover. Just HUMBLE....
For me, the title “This Is Our God” written in big (red) letters is a perfect eye-catcher; it is kind of a proclamation to those who do not know my GOD Whom I serve, so I would have a great opportunity to tell them about HIM....

it sounded to disco.. ... i tnk 4 vocals its more of a jhonathan doglas typ song… joel didnt cary it as well… i liked the AOTA better. i hvnt hrd the WHAO yet…
and the drums… rolf took of a bass shot 4 the verse.. it was (bass bass snare bass bass (snare-bass at the same time)) for AOTA but on S.K. it was just (bass bass snare bass (snare-bass at the same time))
it kinda took off the pretty challenging part of the song… the verse….
he did lots off fills… but all of them were easy… exept the last one where he did a 16th note from the snare to the floor with double peds on the bass doing the same thing… that rocked!!!! but if im not mistaking rolf’s also the one who drummed it for AOTA ryt?

The secular world does in fact exist, “youknow”, it’s foolish to think that worship leaders don’t have to make a living in it too. Remember, Hillsong runs on the time and energy of volunteers – Brooke, Marty & Michael are not paid salaries for singing 5 songs on various albums every year.

Jesus wasn’t about keeping the gospel and God’s love just amongst the already converted – he took it out to the sinners’ worlds. What’s the point of Marty and Brooke and Michael being Christians if they just hide behind Hillsong’s walls all the time where the only people who hear their music are other church members.

135 days agoYouknow…....Jesus did exactly that, except it was the Tax collecters and the sinners.
As he says in Mark 2:
16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and ‘sinners’?” 17On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”Jesus calls us to go out amongst those “sinners”. But we are not to be yolked with them, we are to set ourselves apart, as we have God’s kingdom in our hearts.
It’s not about preaching the gospel to people, it’s about showing God to them through our lives, it says somewhere in one of Peters letters, that if we live in Gods way, people will ask us, not we will tell them, but that we should be prepared to tell them when they ask. How can we show them this stuff if we are not close to them, but living under God’s kingdom.
Another point I’d like to make is a quote from a fightstar song. “God will make the final Judgement” we are not called to judge but to love, we’re not totally pure, we have logs in our eyes.
Permalink to this commentSkylar
135 days agoI didn’t want to get involved, but here I am. Jesus would not have allowed Himself to have His witness dead.
Paul asks in Romans 2 “you who preach, do you do those things you preach against?” Then He says “God’s name is blasphemed among the gentiles because of you.” have you ever thought that sometimes us as Christians can look like hypocrites preaching one thing but then loving what the world loves, that being profane talk?
I like Nial said: “Jesus calls us to go out amongst those “sinners”. But we are not to be yolked with them, we are to set ourselves apart, as we have God’s kingdom in our hearts.”
As Christians we are to be set apart from this world, yes as hard as it is and sounds, that’s what we have been called. Paul speaks on how we can hurt the weaker in the faith by doing exactly what the world does. An example is when Paul had to correct Peter when he said “you are the one who when the Jews are out of town you participate with the gentiles” (paraphrase) in other words, he would live like he was without law, or as Jesus calls it and many others, lawlessness, it deadens and weakens the witness of the person being the hypocrite, but it weakens the faith of the already weak in faith who hear you say one thing but then go and do exactly what the world does.
We are to preach the gospel. The Bible does not once say never share the gospel unless someone asks. I want to make that clear. That doesn’t mean beat someone with your words, but it does mean we are to preach the gospel to the whole world, so Nial I would have to disagree with you on that part, though what your saying is correct, we are still called to preach the gospel.
About judging, the Bible does say that with the same judgement we judge, we will be judged. But all to often Christians say “you can’t judge” and they use it wrong and call someone or something who is trying to help their brother out, many say they are being judgmental. However the Bible says this:
Juke 6:
37 “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
39 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye?
[!!!!!!!!!!! READ]Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.[!!!!!!!!!!! READ]
Do you see what I am saying? We are to help our brother, HOWEVER, we are to make sure we, before we attempt to say “brother, I love you but this is a sin…” are to make sure we have the plank in our eye dealt with. That is not to say we don’t sin, but if we don’t struggle with a certain area that our brother or sister does, we can help them with it and show them the light, after all we are called to be the light.
In Him,

135 days agoi have a lot of things to say.
Mia fields currently lives in the states, in Nashvillie, she is writing that isn’t Jesus music.
Mike Guy, while he did play for Pink and the Academy is and Butch Walker, is mainly involved with a band called “1969”. Butch walker is the lead singer, they a worship sound (like with the guitar licks and stuff) but it’s not worship music. It’s also not devil worship, just good music. Luke Munnis is also doing his own thing.
If you have heard or listened to any of Brooke or Marty’s stuff you know that while it is not worship, it is Christian and so are they.
Brooke’s biggest hit “Albertine” is about how she was convicted when she went to Rwanda and saw devastation there. Thus, she was convicted to “tell the world. Tell them where I’ve been…” she says, “now that I have seen I am responsible a faith w.o deeds is dead.”
To me that is about one of the most important Christ-like messages there are.
Michael plays guitar. Music is a-moral. It is the heart with which you play music that makes it praise or evil. take the music to “break free” change the words 100% make it about why pre-marital sex is a good and the song that was praise is now evil.
Furthermore, united hires secular musicians all the time to go on tour with them. Does that mean on tour people can’t/don’t worship because Christians aren’t playing the music? No way! Now the person leading (Joel, Marty, Brooke etc) prolly needs to be a Christian, but the music means nothing if the heart is on sin.
btw. Gabe did the entire drums on AOTA.
And a Worship leader from OKC co-wrote “You are Here,” with Dave George. His name is Grant Pankrtz.
as for the London album, they are still in the finishing stages. You are here is on it, and in my opinion like the on “This is our God,” it’s the best song on the (London) album as well.
love. love. love.

135 days agoI just wanted to throw this out there but I am curious to know what you all think. Is it okay if a Christian goes to the bar with friends but doesn’t drink? I am not trying to be legalistic here, but I know God doesn’t want me to drink or get drunk. Should we even be going to bars, just so we can be “part of the group”? I know I am called apart from that. We can witness and love others in many ways and in other places besides bars, but do you think hanging out in bars sends the wrong message?

Plus, can somebody tell me who is Jill? At least her last name or anything at at all.

134 days agoAaron, that what you ask is debatable cuz some people might agree and some won’t. I don’t see anything “wrong” with hanging with your secular friends, but if you personally think that that place is not gonna do you good, you shouldn’t go there cuz your relationship with God it’s more important than feeling part of a group, they need to respect that that is not your type of environment even though you know you won’t do anything wrong.
About the secular thing, like someone said above, can’t remember who, everyone has a life outside church, yes we are worshippers, but we also have our jobs and we need to make money somehow, being a secular musician is a normal as being an accountant, beautician, engineer, teacher, etc., you do those things same with secular and with christian people, there’s the thing with music where there’s so much bad influence in it but we need to be smart and pick the right decisions about it.

134 days agoPlease read this light heartedly, I think we Christians argue too much sometimes, and I’m not trying to preach to you! I have been brought up to understand the christian faith in one way, and you guys will have a slightly different view!
Skylar, I’m sorry I meant to put it’s not just about preaching the gospel, obviously I don’t think we shouldn’t preach the good news!
Youknow, I think there is a line that needs to be drawn, but Jesus probably did have some drink and maybe even had some fun(but we can never know as we weren’t there, it’s just speculation based on jewish culture!), the bible condemns drunkeness, not drinking, and God wants us to rejoice and have fun. However I believe as Jesus was both fully God and fully human, it was easier for him to draw that line!
As soon as we accept God into our hearts we are seperate from the world, we are owned by God, but as you say that shouldn’t mean we stop reaching out to the lost.
I wasn’t speaking compromise, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I never said we should convert to being like sinners to connect with them. Rather I was saying that by befriending sinners and living lives that reflect Gods glory we can impact their lives.
I was not saying that Jesus might as well have been a tax collector, I was saying he was the doctor for the tax collectors, but he couldn’t treat them without being amongst them.
I think whats happened here is that we’re trying to explain the same point, but that we’re going about it in very different ways!
To sum up what I think we’re both trying to say:
It’s ok to be friends of sinners, as long as you are trying to live a Godly life around them, and don’t get sucked into their sinful nature. We are seperate from the world but still in the world so we should go out and share God and his awesome love!
In love from your brother in Christ

134 days agoWell said, Niall.
I find myself on the other side of the spectrum. I am at church most nights of the week because of the worship team or because of youth etc etc…but then my actual day job is working for a Christian TV station…and when I go home; my family is all Christian, too!
So I find myself longing to go out to the pubs or whatever with people I’ve met through previous jobs, or from college etc so that I can be an example to them in the way I speak and act etc.
When so much of my of my day-to-day life is contained in Christian environments, I feel like I need to get that balance and hang out with some unchurched people so that I’m doing what it says in Matthew 4:14-16
“You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t hide a light under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand so the light shines for all the people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things that you do and will praise your Father in Heaven.”
This says to me that I need to be a light to the world and shine bright…but how am I supposed to do that if I only ever hang out in Christian environments with other Christians…they don’t need the light that I’m shining because they have it, too…
Just a thought =)

134 days agoExcited to get the new album. Think about how much worship has changed in the last 10 years. We are truly in a worship revolution. Churches around the world, including Hillsong, are becoming more and more free and expressive in worship. It’s not about one person, either. Yes, we love Darlene, Marty, and Reuben…but there is an army of worship leaders who are taking the message across the world. The duplication of worship leaders at Hillsong and around the world is the fruit of the obedience of hearts willing to give it all for the kingdom.

134 days agohey…normally i don’t post on these things..but i found this site and just want to throw this point out there.
I forget who, but i read here that someone mentioned something about “where to draw the line” in reference to music. The morality line you speak of doesn’t exist in the same place for every person. Some people are called to be “bar” witnesses, others aren’t. Some people are called to witness in brothels, others are called to witness to the homeless. It’s about our calling. Those who are called to witness in bars will be able to avoid the temptation that other christians might fall into because they are doing what god has called them to do.
Take a look at XXX church…they go to porn conventions and hand out bibles and witness to porn stars. Their booth is the most visited booth, and they have made a HUGE difference in that industry. Not everyone could do that, but because they have been specifically called by God to that ministry, it is successful. We gotta get into the dark places. If we say “well, that place is too dark, i won’t go shine my light there..i’ll just pray they find Jesus”...that doesn’t make sense. We are his ambassador’s on the earth and someone’s gotta shine light in the darkness.
Essentially, we all have the same calling. And that is to witness to the world…the secular world needs Jesus, and in order for his name to be made famous someone’s got to get in there and make a difference.
MGC has an amazing gift…and we all know he is using it for a good witness. If your line is drawn at secular music, then draw it there. God obviously has a call on his life that extends beyond that line.
It’s easy to judge from the sideline, when really we should all be getting involved in some form of witness.
Butch Walker needs Jesus and so do his fans. MGC is up close and personal with this scene…let him do his work and don’t judge him. Focus on God’s call on your own life, rather than focusing on what someone else should or shouldn’t do.

@Rod: I have had two conference calls with Craig Gross, the founder of XXXchurch. He had a male organ on his home page as well as a lady in lingerie. There is a problem when Christian sites look like porn sites. They had my friend’s (who is more than likely going to marry my sister) testimony on their site, his name is Will you could find it on their.
I know them very well. I admire what they are trying to do, just not the way they are doing it. a previous porn addict knows a porn site when he sees one. I was a porn addict for 8 years and I am a Web and Graphic designer and xxxchurches site looked like a porn site.

“The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’”
—-
the next one doesn’t say He got drunk with wine but that He received it
—-
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

So again, sorry if it seemed like i was just being opinionated. I usually back up all my posts with scripture when in a debate/conversation about theological things, however I thought we were all just messing around. again, I am sorry.

132 days agoit was awesome to hear “Shout to the Lord” being sung on Idol…i was upset about them substituting the word Jesus but regardless, the song proclaims the wonders and magnificence of our God all across the world. It was a wonderful declaration of our God, our mighty mighty God! PS: Wonder what Darlene feels?

132 days agowell it’s the most downloaded song on iTunes right after it was sung, and I’m sure Hillsong has gotten a lot more publicity. It was written in 92 tho. There have been a lot of good songs Hillsong has done since 92.

132 days agoYa I hear what you guys are saying Aaron and Sandy, however after I watched it I thought to myself. God always says that He despises lukewarmness, that He wishes we were either hot or cold.
Here we have people on AMERICAN IDOL singing “Shout to The Lord.” They take out Jesus, who is the only Savior and Way to the Father. Are they doing for show, as it was a one time thing, or are they living their lives that way, “shout to the Lord?” I can’t say as I don’t know them.
It got me thinking though. The one thing that mattered to me the most was how they took out Jesus. There is a reason why they did it. I think the subject of Jesus is to much of an offense, many did when He was alive. I don’t like how we can alter a song, take out Jesus, and call it God.
If you notice they say “My Shepherd, My Savior.” because if they say Jesus, “My Jesus, my Savior.” it might offend people because many don’t believe Jesus is the Savior. It’s as if they were encompassing every version of God by keeping it general, so that way they don’t offend anyone.
It could just be me, but why take out Jesus? why?

they just have to accept it

132 days agoIt was stupid for that to take out Jesus, and the only reason I can come up with is to not offend people. I can imagine Darlene hearing the news now, “A.I wants to do a performance of Shout to the Lord, but they want to take out the name Jesus, will you let them do it?”
Permalink to this commentDarlene’s response, “You’re kidding me, right?”
That’s the response I would have anyway, but i assume she let them do it because she knew it would reach the thousands upon thousands of viewers that watch that show, and maybe some of them would be touched.
I really wish they hadn’t taken out Jesus tho. Since atheists are all about tolerance they should be able to tolerate the name Jesus in a song.

131 days agoI can’t believe that Darlene, Mia, Rueben, Marty, and Miriam have such little parts this year. They were the best things about the last 8 albums that it is weird that Miriam and Rueben may not even be on stage at all, Darlene and Marty lead one song, and there are no Mia originals.
Joel is a nice writer but his voice is nasally and uncontrolled.
Joel Davies is writing again. That is awesome. What songs did he ever lead or it this his first?
The audio samples cut out Jill’s voice in Desert Prayer.
Of course American Idol would cut out the name of Jesus. It is primetime TV and they would try to respect others beliefs. IT makes me wonder why the sang it in the reprise. Also, they probably sang it because three American Idols have covered it.

131 days agoThe audio samples are very nice. I don’t like ‘Stronger’ from what I can hear, it is very repetitive.
Permalink to this commentCourtney Diseases
131 days agoStronger – that’s just the tag, Reuben’s tags are always a little repetitive.
Reuben was on the stage a bit, probably the most out of him, Darls and Marty.
I don’t think Joel has ever led before Where We Belong. His only other song thus far has been Only One on Look To You, but I don’t know if that was him singing. On the night he appeared very nervous and self-conscious, so I would guess he’s not led all that much. I wonder if Where We Belong will be on the DVD?
Brooke and Jill shared Desert Prayer, I’m pretty sure that Jill had the first chorus and Brooke had the second, so don’t stress, she’ll be there!
Maybe they only cut the name of Jesus out of American Idol cos “My Shepherd, my Saviour” alliterates somewhat. It’s a clearly religious, patently obvious Christian song, cutting Jesus’ name out of it doesn’t make it any less so, I think. Shout to the Lord, regardless of whether you call him Jesus or Shepherd or Saviour or Father or anything!

131 days agohey one reason why people used to drink wine was cause in those days, water was not necessarily safe for drinking. and yes there is a passage in the bible where Jesus changes water to wine…however, i think we should be careful not to take the bible out of context and twist it the way we want it.

131 days agoCourtney, what do you mean Joel has never led before?
He’s led on the past 3 live United albums (as well as on the studio one) and on withhearts as one, he’s also led on the past 4 main church albums I think, so he’s led plenty of times. He’s also head of Worship and Creative Arts at Hillsong, so is very involved in leading and building up other leaders.
This is only what I understand, so please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong! :-)

I know, I wish she would have been featured over Brooke. But ya, Desert Prayer (though called Desert Song on the website) is so far my favorite song on the album. But then again there’s like 12 other songs I probably haven’t heard.
Also, Jill does take the first verse and chorus I believe and she sings the Bridge. On top of that I believe she leads out another song. Love her voice.

128 days agoOk, thanks for answering. You’ll come, I listen to that like everyday lol on my way to work, at work. anyways, I can quite answer your question but if I may infer. On your most recient post, if “With Everything” is the last song on the album, then judging by the title of the You Tube video (Hillsong New Live Album – Final – 09/03/2008) Final meaning the end, then I would say it’s the ending to “With Everything.” Just a thought.

127 days agoIm so confused it seems the names of songs have changed and some people think that the same song is two different songs, simply because people are labelling it different. This dosn’t add up to what Felix said in the beginning, in his recount. 127 days agoJamin, that clip does look like it is filmed at a campus, but it seems it might be the recording.
The woman leading it wil Jad is one of my favorite singers from Hillsong, she sings lead on the Kid albums but she is part of the personnel since 2000. I always wanted her to sing lead, she has a beautiful voice and encourages worship. I also like Katrina
Also “Fall At Your Feet” might have been renamed “This Is Our God”. “You Deserve” was renamed too
Also vocals are often changed on the albums. For example Dee’s lead was changed to Darlene in “Know You More” and Darlene’s lead was changed to Marty in “Everyday” from the Unified Praise Album

Does anyone else think it might spoil the anticipation of the actual release? 127 days agoYOUR NAME HIGH
Words and Music by Joel Houston
VERSE 1
Your innocence forsaken
Upon that cross
You gave Yourself for us
Carried into Your freedom
Our broken past replaced in
A second chance
The chains have come undone
Death defied in the Father’s love
CHORUS
We are
Living to make Your Name high
Jesus
Living to make Your Name high
Jesus You
Gave what the world couldn’t offer us
Say what they want say what they want
We are free
VERSE 2
The atmosphere is changing
Oh can You hear
The people rising up
In the hope of Your freedom
Our former ways are breaking
We seek Your face
God let Your kingdom come
In our praises be lifted up
BRIDGE
With eyes on high we praise You
And with one voice we come together
Our one desire to praise You
And lift You up in our surrender
With eyes on high we praise You
And with one voice we come together
Our one desire to praise You
And lift You up ‘cause we are (chorus)
HE IS LORD
Words & Music by Ben Fielding

I’m alive
Cause Jesus lives
